Late Of The Pier - Fantasy Black Channel

Erol Aiken produced and Mystery Jets approved, I heard these guys debut album Fantasy Black Channel today, and it’s pretty good. Very catchy DIY synth sound. Sort of if the Mystery Jets fused with White Rose Movement or something like that. None (okay a few) of the New Wave contrivances that I love, but that make NME bands so difficult to separate. On a second listen now. There’s a lot of subtly to the melodies that I didn’t pick up on at first. Definitely sounds like Erol Aiken’s production, proggy, yelpy, and ultimately poppy. At the end of “VW” I’m pretty sure lead singer Samuel Eastgate says ”cabbage…. can you smell snacks?” If anyone can clear this up, it’d be appreciated.
UPDATE:
“Bathroom Gurgel” sounds like Our Daughters Wedding. Forget what I said about the 80’s contrivances. Still, who sounds like Our Daughters Wedding in 2008. Let’s do this already!!
